Airconstruct moves up one tier
We are very pleased to announce that we have had our Integrated Management System third party certified. We will soon receive our stripes for ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environment Management Systems and AS 4801 Safety Management Systems. These are national and internationally recognized accreditations. While the little logo’s at the bottom of this page may not seem like much, they are in fact a big deal.

They represent a commitment to our valued customers to provide and maintain an extremely high level of quality in all aspects of our business. A level of quality so high that less than 0.5% of Australian business are 9001 accredited and less than .09% are 14001 accredited.

It’s been a long road and a lot of hard work with quite a few hoops. We have had visits from the friendly auditor Dwayne, we have worked our QA Officer, Donna Byrne to the bone, and we have created a long document trail with a complicated name. At the end of the day we are very proud of our new stripes. Well done Donna and a big thanks to all of our staff who made this possible.

Ducted Systems in homes.

Ducted systems in homes are a marvelous thing. You need to maintain a vigilant check on them over the years to ensure you do not end up breathing in insulation fibers which are often made of fine glass. Over time the friction of the air passing on the insulation surfaces causes wear and sometimes tear. You need to have your ducted system checked internally to ensure the integrity of the insulation and therefore the quality of the air you are breathing. Here are a few pics of one we went to recently that was installed around 25 years ago. Still working, but unfortunately the insulation of the day does not stand up to time in the same way the mechanical equipment does. There were many of these ducted systems installed around Mackay in the early days of air-conditioning here and they should be services and inspected at least annually to ensure they are up to scratch.

As part of our community engagement program last Saturday we were happy to sponsor the Sensory Circus Tribe in conjunction with the Mackay Regional Councils Active In The City program for free Circus Skills Training at the Old Town Hall Park. Kids of all ages showed up and judging and a very good time was had by all who attended. Airconresi is happy to help provide an outlet for people to enjoy some fresh air, sunshine and roll around in the grass over the next 8 weeks. Also we may have also inadvertently provided some free babysitting which I’m sure was appreciated by the parents and nearby shops.

Already our staff are busy roping in friends and cousins in preparation for the next session. We even have one documented case of someone borrowing a child so they will have an excuse to join in. In fact it was so popular we even made the local paper and the local TV news, although we suspect it might also have been a slow news day.

Circus skills have some great advantages when it comes to early development in raising self-esteem and confidence, help with fundamental team work skills and provides excellent brain, coordination and strength balance training. We look forward to the next event and hopefully we can draw more of a crowd as the sessions continue over Autumn.

On a sad note after such a good time we think our young Dave will be running off to join the circus in the near future.

If you feel like getting involved the next three sessions will be,

Saturday 6 April, 9am-11am, Old Town Hall Park

Saturday 20 April, 9am-11am, Old Town Hall Park

Saturday 4 May, 9am-11am, Old Town Hall Park

Do you have a split system in your home or office?
This is a fan barrel that is heavily contaminated due to a lack of servicing. A lot of the work done by the fan is on the leading edge of the blade. When the leading edge is soiled heavily like this, the fans ability to cut and push air is reduced significantly. Some of the symptoms include having to turn your fan onto high speed to feel any air circulation, dropping the temperature setting lower than usual to feel any comfort. These fans can only be cleaned properly by removing them from the unit and this needs to be done by a skilled air hygienist or air-conditioning tech.

Having an air-conditioning system with thriving colonies of bacteria is nothing to be ashamed of as generally speaking, we just don’t look up. It blows cold air and that’s all we want right?

If you suspect that you have bugs in your systems then try this simple test. Take a torch and shine it inside the part of your unit where the cold air comes out and if it look anything like what you see in these pics, guess what, you’re doing bugs!

Why not call one of our specialist air hygienists to come and take a look and make a recommendation on the best course of remedial action. We use the Aeris Guard system wherever possible. A patented enzyme has been developed by special people in special white coats who have their own patented bug warriors that come to life with a bit of luke warm water and they are programmed for only one purpose; Seek and destroy bugs, and even better, it’s not tested on animals, just people. Its environmentally friendly and if you give our resident bugologist Jim Bennett 2 cartons of beer and he will mix up a batch and drink it right before your eyes (he needs the 2 cartons first to pluck up the courage) Seriously, this gear works to the point where if you follow the process and do it right we warranty it for 12 months to two years depending on the state it is in currently.

Vermin Strike

Sadly it’s that time of year when Air Conditioners get turned on to calm the effects of Summer, only to find out that you’ve been the victim of Vermin Strike. This can be rats chewing wires, wasps blocking pipes, mice destroying filters, ants infesting everything, or even geckos and frogs shorting circuit boards. As you can imagine this spells doom for your air conditioner, to top that off Vermin Strike isn’t covered by the manufacturer warranty.

Air Conditioners are particularly susceptible to this, a large shady box with an abundance of water is a magnet to all creatures small and smaller. Just yesterday the Airconresi boys we’re dealing with a extremely nasty unit which had taken countless frogs lives. You would have thought by the 10th corps the other frogs would have suspected something was wrong. Sadly no, they just kept coming inside to meet their doom almost like they were hell bent on destroying this poor air conditioner. Their was however one survivor who was rescued and given a small lecture on the dangers of electricity before being release into the wild.

After all this doom and gloom I can tell you there is a bright side. Most manufactures are producing vermin proof circuitry on their units. It’s a very good idea to check if a new unit has this feature before you purchase it. Regular servicing can pick up potential infestations before they get to big. Especially during the dry winter as freshly mature creepy crawlies are looking for a new home. We even have a simple organic method to keep unwanted visitors out of you outdoor unit until your next service. Unlike most things in life this comes free with just about everything we do.

Refrigeration is our greatest invention.
The Royal Society has done an extensive study and decided that refrigeration is the greatest invention of mankind. It beat other top contenders such as cooking, the knife and sterilization. Each innovation was judged on Health, aesthetics, accessibility and productivity. We here at Airconstruct have always known the Refrigeration is a great thing and we are glad The Royal Society think so to.

Waste Water Heat.
Two separate programs have been launched in Chicago and Philadelphia to use waste water as HVAC solutions.
In Philadelphia the water department will trial geothermal heating of the water, and then pumping the water into commercial buildings.
In Chicago will effluent will be used to transfer heat to building in winter. Also it will be used to provide cooling to those buildings in summer.

Anti-Mosquito Air Conditioning.
LG has released a new unit that uses ultrasonic waves to repel the annoying pest. LG hopes that that the unit will have a profound effect in preventing Malaria and Dengy Fever around the world. The unit has been tested by the World Health Organization who recorded a average 84% drop in female mosquitoes. In addition the user has the option to turn this feature on or off at any time.

The boys down at Airconresi are pleased to announce the release of their very own iPhone app, AirCool.

AirCool is a simple heat load calculator designed to give you an approximate estimation of your Air Conditioner needs. It’s essentially a slimmed down version of the calculations that are used in the industry. Why Slimmed Down? Well we thought that people might not want to enter their height above sea level or exact latitude and longitude so we kept it down to only 4 questions. A thorough heat load calculation could have 500+ questions and still only vary by .01 KW. That being said we do have the software for a comprehensive calculation feel free to contact us to find out more. Or there is also a link down the bottom containing the RESLOAD notes (based on the latest AREMA and CSIRO data) to give you a better idea in what in involved.

AirCool is just a small example of the technology we embrace to provide better service to the customer. Technology allows us to provide cheaper solutions while increasing quality. We use a large array of different systems from managing staff, warranties, services, quotes and even safety. To top it all of they all interlink with each other.

Good evening viewers!

There seems to be a lot of talk about residential “solar” air conditioning of late so I thought I should look into this a little deeper and see what residential solar air conditioning is all about. Is this something we should offer our customers? What are the advantages of this type of system? It seems that they have been tagged with the word hybrid, but you shouldn’t be thinking quality Toyota car here, hybrid they may be, but more in the sense of a hybrid combination of Chinese split system junk that used to once saturate the Australian residential market before we tightened our energy efficiency standards and evacuated tubes that are more commonly found as part of a solar hot water system. They seem to have taken these poorly made inefficient units and added hot water evacuated tubes in order, or so it is claimed to “improve efficiency” the only reason they would have done this is to meet the M.E.P.S. which stands for Minimum Energy Performance Standards, or the Start Rating System as it is more commonly known.

And would you believe after hours and hours of researching the internet I could not find one reputable air conditioning contractor offering “solar” air conditioning, it seems the guys trying to drive this market are generally the Photo Voltaic Solar installers who have little or no understanding of refrigeration systems, principles or thermodynamics.

Check out this report by choice magazine, the consumer watchdog. It is one of the better looking types utilising a flat plat collector instead of evacuated tubes, but given the piping mess that the install creates, I can’t see it being viable. And choice has rated it very poorly. Click Here to view the report

In all honesty the only thing I can see that is “solar” about these units is the fact that they sit in the sun!

However, worth noting there is a movement gaining momentum for the use of solar cooling on a commercial scale where real energy savings can be made. It is called ausSCIG They are a sub-group of the Australian Institute or Refrigeration Air conditioning and Heating as well as the so we have special people in white coats working in special buildings, talking in terms that I grasp to understand, so that must be good.

Kind regards

Good evening viewers!

The countdown is on to see who will win the prestigious 2012 AIRAH Award for most outstanding achievements in the HVAC&R industry. Our industries night of nights held annually that recognizes Australia’s best performers held in Brisbane tomorrow evening.

In the most recent issue of Breeze, the Actronair newsletter, Actronair general manager Graham Brown announced that The Actronair® Tri-Capacity Series system has been nominated as a finalist for this years’ AIRAH Award.

Australian designed, engineered and manufactured by Actronair, Tri-capacity technology delivers a combination of superior performance, energy efficiency, and flexibility of installation design coupled with reduced commissioning time.

We congratulate Actronair on their achievement and I am confidently predicting an Airah award will go their way.

We are very proud to have a strong association with Actronair product that dates back for me personally to 1990 when I used to buy the odd ducted system out of their premises located in a suburb called Seven Hills in Western Sydney, to more recently our association with Actronair with our mining projects since we first took the product to site in 2007 and installed the packaged unit for the Workshop 3 Crib room.

We have completed many successful projects since this time and this latest innovation in H.V.A.C. technology will be integral to furthering our success at Airconstruct and is also in-line with our obligations under our Code of Ethics and Practices.
