Airconstruct commenced trading on July 1st 2001, and has grown steadily over the last 12 years. We are based in Mackay QLD, and are proudly locally owned and operated. Airconstruct is the legacy business from which all other ideas are born. We will travel to anywhere in the Central Queensland and Whitsunday region.
Our staff regularly attend dealer training sessions to ensure we are always up to date with the latest products and technology. Our staff also go through consistent industry specific training regime to ensure they have the latest knowledge and can comply to the latest standards. With a combined 56 years of air conditioning experience amongst our workgroup and many ducted systems designed and installed in Mackay homes over the last 12 years through Airconstruct’s operation, we have developed installation techniques that enhance your business's value and ensure your systems will run efficiently.
We have third party certified Integrated Management Systems with Operational Processes and Work Instructions developed on the ground and matured over time which allow us to give all sites the same high standard of workmanship and a consistent level of service. It is generally recognized that Australians spend 90% or more of their time indoors either relaxing or working. Until recently relatively little research has been done on the quality of air in our homes, offices, schools, recreational buildings, restaurants, public buildings or even inside cars.
Less than acceptable indoor air quality can result in significant adverse impacts on our health and environment. Furthermore these impacts carry significant cost burdens to the economy. The C.S.I.R.O. estimates that the cost of less than acceptable indoor air quality in Australia may be as high as $12 billion per year. In recent years comparative risk studies performed by the US EPA and its Science Advisory Board have consistently ranked indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to public health.
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) define indoor air as;
“Air within a building occupied for at least one hour by people of varying states of health”
This can include the office, classroom, transport facility, shopping centre, hospital and home. Indoor air quality can be defined as the totality of attributes of indoor air that affect a person’s health and well being.
As commercial buildings and dwellings have become better sealed from the external environment, pollutants being released from indoor sources are being found at higher concentrations.
Indoor air quality can be adversely affected by other pollutants such as fungi, microbial contamination, house dust mites, particulates and air toxics such as formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds.
Investigating and resolving indoor air quality problems can be complex.
However identifying the likely cause and controlling it should minimise health and comfort concerns and maintain or increase productivity. The Building Manager may choose to employ a Mechanical Services contractor who has an in-house specialist in this field or an Occupational Hygienist to conduct the indoor air quality investigation.
Monitoring for specific airborne contaminants is not usually helpful as they are commonly present at levels below workplace exposure standards. Health or comfort symptoms are more likely to be caused by a combination of contaminants than from a high level of one specific contaminant.
Carbon dioxide is the exception as it is an indicator of the adequacy of ventilation for the number of occupants in a building.
Following the investigation, the investigator may form a theory or hypothesis about the cause of the problems. This should be tested and verified by implementing corrective action procedures and then carrying out further inspections and consultation to see whether the problem has been resolved. If the investigator has not been able to identify a possible cause of the problem a more detailed inspection of the building and its air handling systems may be required.

Our Integrated management systems are third party certified for ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environment and AS 4801. These are national and internationally recognized accreditations. It was a two year journey for us to get these systems developed, implemented and certified and would not have been possible without the contribution made by our entire Airconstruct team.
Energy conservation in buildings can lead to real cost savings. In this day and age of carbon tax and N.G.E.R. compliance Airconstruct are at the forefront with energy conservation initiatives for H.V.A.C. systems in large buildings. With our Retro-tech fan testing equipment we can pressurize buildings to find air leakages that could be causing energy wastes and our Climacheck equipment allows for the fine tuning of the mechanical components of large equipment to ensure you have it running at optimum performance. David Jones is passionate about energy conservation has completed N.A.B.E.R.S. assessor training as well as the AIRAH Carbon Detectives course. He has a few projects under his belt that he has been able to demonstrate substantial energy savings for clients.
Thermostats should be set between 24–26°C. Every 1°C lower in temperature can increase running costs by up to 15% or cost you for repairs because of excessive wear and tear through prolonged use. They also need the condenser to be free of dirt and leaves. An unobstructed air flow saves electricity and preserves the life of your unit.
